Healesville

without comments

As with many my thoughts have been with those in Victoria, I have traveled through many of the regions that have been burnt out and where there has been the tragic loss of life.

On numerous occasions we filmed Creature Features in the Healesville Sanctuary, to get to Healesville we traveled though many of those towns that have been so devastated.

Today I heard that  Healesville Sanctuary is closed due to the fires surrounding the town. With more than 1000 animals, it is not possible to safely evacuate them all. Many have been transferred  to Melbourne Zoo and Werribee Open Range Zoo.

Healsville is surrounded by bush, houses and the main streets are lined with trees.

We will continue to pray for those in Victoria.

The following pictures are from Healesvile Sanctuary.

Sad

without comments

There are some things that saddened me when we worked with animals. Seeing this sort of thing was one of them.

I must say that it is a delicate balance for zoo’s. They want to keep the animals safe from the dangerous humans, and also they want to allow those dangerous humans get as close as they can to the beautiful animals. How do you do it? After almost seven years of visiting zoos and parks I have no answer.

How to strangle a cat!

with one comment

Seeing that I have not had a chance to process any of my recent photos, I went scrolling through some of the old pictures, thinking about what I could post. And I came across this “not too old” picture of me and Modi. Now seeing that I very rarely post a picture of myself I thought that you may be interested in seeing this one.

If you look closely you can see that I am inside the Meerkat enclosure. This was taken at Werribee Zoo.

Relax

without comments

Relax man, chill out, He is one cool dude.

And for a bit of trivia, Polar Bear hair or fur has tiny spaces in each fibre. This helps with insulation and also floatation.

Isn’t she cute

with one comment

This little lady is so cute. This was taken at Sea World on Wednesday. Although she is a cute she does have a nasty problem which is why she is in the turtle hospital at Sea World.
You see she suffers from gas! Not the nicest of problems to have, especially if you are a turtle. Why I hear you ask? Well the gas problem she has is not the one that I am sure you all immediately though of. Her problem is that she can’t get rid of the gas. It keeps on building up in her system which causes her to float. This is not good if you are an animal that needs to go underwater to actually survive.
We asked the obvious question as to how do you know when they are better. The answer was “when you see them on the bottom of the pool” Simple really.
