Spoonerism

Spoonerism

I love spoonerisms.

Doing a quick google I came across some that have been attributed to the man who has lent his name to this mucking up of words. Dr. William Spooner.

  • Once Dr. Spooner raised a toast to Her Royal Highness, Queen Victoria, and proclaimed: “Three cheers for our queer old dean!”
  • During World War I he reassured his students, “When our boys come home from France, we will have the hags flung out.”
  • On another occasion, he lionized Britain’s farmers as “ye noble tons of soil.”
  • He reportedly ended a wedding he was performing with: “It is now kisstomary to cuss the bride.”

I am working at a conference this week. This means that I have a lot of time to sit and write, think, watch and generally catch up on things that don’t require to much concentration.

I spend most of my time sitting behind a sound desk making sure that you can hear the main speaker and making sure that their PowerPoint presentation keeps on working. When everything goes OK then you have a lot of time to do things like update your blog. When things are not going OK it usually means that you have not done your job properly and you have missed something so you have to sort out the problem. Thankfully 99% of the time we get it right.

So seeing that everything is going well I have been spending some time looking at the “back-end” of this website.  And I have discovered some rather interesting facts and figures.

There have been 568 posts

Those 568 posts have received  190 Comments

The 568 posts have been looked at 4469 times.

The busiest day had 95 views and it was January 2 this year

But the most amazing statistic is that of those 4469  views 2635 of them were for one page! That page was the was one which has a photo of Alannah with the girls from the Saddle Club.

Saddle Club

Saddle Club

So I think I have stumbled across a way to make my website really popular, just add the words Saddle Club into your text and watch those numbers fly!

A bachelor for a day

without comments

Well a bachelor for two days to be exact. What a strange feeling it has been. Marlee and the kids have been visiting friends at Sussex Inlet for the last three days, which has been perfect timing as i have had a fairly heavy workload of editing. It has been nice to come home from work and go straight to the computer and just edit with out any interruptions. Having said that I do miss them all very much. I think the strangest thing has been in the mornings, waking up and not hearing any noise.

Being able to make noise as I get ready to leave as also been great.

In fact I was late getting to the pool this morning because I took my time getting ready! Normally the alarm goes off, I jump (fall) out of bed, put on the clothes that were laid out the night before.  Slip into the bathroom then slip out the front door, trying not to wake anyone. This takes around three minutes. This morning I turned on lights, made choices about clothes, took longer in the bathroom and finally slammed the front door closed! Grand total of ten minutes! My poor swimming buddy was left freezing, waiting in his bugie smugglers for me to turn up this morning.

Anyway things are back to normal tonight as they all arrive back this afternoon.

Memories

without comments

Marlee took this picture for me!
The reason was that we were talking about one of my childhood memories, which was seeing a clothesline full of soccer jerseys. For me it brings back those Saturdays that were full of sport and fun, actually that is what are Saturdays are like now!!!
